2006 Camp Manager’s Report

Acadian Baptist Center touched many lives for Christ this past year. The staff and volunteers worked diligently improving the facilities and providing a Christ-like atmosphere where the Holy Spirit could speak to young and old alike, away from the distractions of the world.

The ministry of ABC is only possible because of the support of many churches and individuals. Last year 68 churches and 6 associations supported ABC in their budgets through a monthly donation. An additional 31 other churches and associations made donations to help with the hurricane ministry. 90 individuals have given to ABC so far this year.

From January through August of 2006, 6789 people have attended events here. We have served 36,682 meals. 137 different groups have attended ABC as of the end of August. This summer ABC hosted 20 groups not including all the weekend retreats during our 11 weeks of camp. Of these 20 groups, 7 were sponsored by ABC, 13 were evangelistic in nature, of the remaining, 5 were band camps, 1 was for children with heart defects and 1 for children with asthma.

139 youth and children gave their lives to Christ at the camps we sponsored this summer, 34 made rededications and 2 surrendered to full time Christian service. Since Acadian Baptist Center began its ministry, makes 6110 salvations have been recorded at summer camp. A highlight of summer camp was having 5 Angel Tree boys sponsored by prison fellowship for children’s camp. 2 of these boys were saved during camp.

This year marked a lot of renovations and upgrades in the facilities of ABC. January through August showed $86,357 in improvements. Elliot Hall received a new metal roof; Elliot and Westberry dormitories had new commercial vinyl tile installed along with new sinks, faucets and lights in each room. The cabins and one of the conference rooms also had new floors installed. All of the dorms got new mattress covers. Forty new bunk beds were donated to ABC. Painting, sound baffles in the gym and, new kitchen equipment were additional accomplishments. Campers on Mission volunteers completely redid half of the camper park with the other half to be done this year.

Future improvements include resurfacing our parking lot and drives; this should be completed in October. The architect is working on new plans for a multi-purpose cafeteria/worship center to be built west of the present cafeteria. Your prayers and support are needed for this endeavor which will be of great benefit in our ministry. The “ER” youth camp had to meet in the gym for worship due to inadequate space in the Chapel.. More dining and banquet area will be a tremendous blessing.

Please continue your generous support as recent hurricanes have resulted in our insurance increasing from $28,000 to $32,000 per year. Our electricity and fuel costs have risen considerably as a result also. Remember us in your regular gifts and your church budget.

Again a special thank you is extended to our staff, volunteers, board of directors, and supporters. Without you none of this would be possible.

Yours in Christ,

James Newsom
